What actually happened to her? Do any of the RPG books give a definitive answer? If so, please post the actual quote so I may scrutinize it at will.

she died in outland after losing Illidan. Illidan finaly got the better of her and she died all alone.

She just died like that? Any disease or something or did Illidan actually kill her?

BTW isn't the character that provides the voice-over for Maiev in the game, the same one as the woman talking in the beginning of the WoW intro movie?

"Shadows & Light", pg. 51:
Sinking into vengeful madness, Maiev pursued Illidan all the way to Outland. Emotion clouded her vision, and Illidan slipped away from her several times. Finally, when Maiev was all but blinded by frustration and vengeance, the Betrayer got the better of her. Maiev died alone on the red sand, unmourned, unsung, with none to remember her fall, her soul empty of all but rage.
Barring a change of mind on Blizzard's part, Maiev is, apparently, dead. However, considering what we know about her, I wouldn't be surprised to see her again as an Avatar or Spirit of Vengeance.

How tragic...but like Obi Wan her being struck down will make her more powerful than we can imagine.
yeah that sound possibly... i've been wondering what happened to her...

If there's one thing we know about dead people in WC, they don't stay dead.

How true, how true. If anything we might even see an undead Maiev sometime. After all, another thing to remember is that in a lot of stories, the vengeful ones are the ones who come back after they die.

Yes I thought of that too.
Who knows what Blizzard has in store for Maiev...

*cough* Balnazzar! *cough*
But yeah, as far as we can tell, Maiev is dead. They could've shown us this in Warcraft 3, but they were probably uncertain of what they wanted to do with her so left her fate open, and solidified it later.

ehh?? why should he go to outland just to search for a old night elf's body to raise her?? sounds wierd to me...

Or is it? A forbidden romance is bound to pop up sooner or later.

I can be wrong , but i remember on that forum someone quoting what i think to be the same text, and a different user quoting a text from another of those rpg books contradicting that 100% certitude Maiev is dead.
I guess we will know more about the definitive answer of Maiev fate when the WoW players will open the portal to the Outlands and then will meet Illidan as a quest target or a quest giver.

The "Alliance & Horde Compendium" - which was released several months ago - contained quotes that, depending on how one interpreted them, could be viewed as contradicting each other in regard to Maiev's current state. However, "Shadows & Light" - which is a much more recent release - is quite explicit in stating that Maiev is dead.

Yeah, the A&H had three versions of the same events. Two used the word "defeated" in reference to Maiev, and one said it resulted in her death. However, the entire thing was a little ambiguous.
