Blizzard has apparently changed the number of old gods from 5 to 4 (see the official story (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/story/chapter1.html#3)). They now match the number of Greek elements. Is it what they are going be? Lords of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water? Does anybody have specifics?

Good finding

On a random fansite, the story like it was until now
The Pantheon shattered the Old Gods’ citadels and chained the five evil beings far beneath the surface of the world.

On the blizzard WoW website, their new lore version, unless they made a typo ?
The Pantheon shattered the Old Gods' citadels and chained the four evil gods far beneath the surface of the world.

Unless the 5th not chained Old God is the one (http://img92.exs.cx/img92/6861/dgdfcod1do.jpg) (according to the book and scrolls you read leading you to this place) that is supposed to have been destroyed, with this huge Titan sword always in the "head" , this gigantic corpse could be seen in a screenshot of the new lore thread.

If this corpse was really the one of an Old God like the texts leading you to there seem to point out, and not just a powerfull lieutnant maybe it is why there are only precision about 4 chained ones.

Good thinking. Except that I would say "four of the evil gods" not "the four evil gods" if there were more of them and only four were chained.

Are you theorizing that the other god(s) isn't evil? That's something to think about.

No, he's just suggesting a less suggestive means of explaining why there are only four instead of five.

I may have been a mistake. They may have confused the five old gods with the four elemental lords. Although since we know so little about the old gods it's not exactly earth shattering.

The Old Gods and the elemental lords, however, are not the same thing, and since the elemental lords exist, I doubt that the Old Gods will also be afforded dominion over the elements

For the curious, the four lords are Al'Akir the Windlord, Ragnaros the Firelord, Neptulon the Tidehunter, and Therezane the Stonemother.

yes theres been some confusion btw the elemental lords and the old gods ever sinmce the names were released. ppl also try to assign an element to each old god (fire air etc...) just like their lieuenants, and become confused when there is only 4 elemets instead of 5. we actualy can not be sure if each old god is a specific element or power or wether they are 5 simialr beings and have a elemetal lord leading each elemtal army. well as far as ive heard. anyone know something more about the old gods?

They often complained about whippersnapper elementals on their lawns.
