They tried to get out of it.
Well they didn't want to do anything about the Horde, so they didn't join the Alliance initially. They thought that would keep the enemy at bay, leaving them at full strength. So was the plan, things turned south went people began to wake up and realise these orcs could do some serious damage. I suppose they lent as little aid as possible to the alliance, but they weren't allies with the Horde. They were hostile too, just doing it in thier own way so to speak, not with the main human forces of Lordereon, Stromgarde, Ironforge ect.

they were in the alliance of course, but sent as little help as possible and rarely engaged the horde until they started encroaching around its boarders. however its believed greymane was hoping if he didn't help lordearon would be weakened enough so that after the war gilenas could be stronger, have more influence prestige etc.....

After the war they wanted nothing to do with the Alliance and refused to pay any of the taxes for reconstruction or orc internment. Greymane also hated proposals from other nations so much that it took Deathwing's charm in Day of the Dragon to convince him otherwise. That shows us how belligerent Gilneas is.

In addition he also supported execution for the orcs in the camps. King terneas refusal acomponied by upkeep taxes finaly caused him to leave the lordearon allaince.
