First of all:
When Krasus/Korialstrasz is about to drink the poison to talk with Ysera, he mentions that three drops of this black liquid killed a creature called the 'Manta'. Is there any other lore on this Manta, and if so, can you tell me?
Second:
Guarding the imprisoned Alexstrasza's chamber, there was a feiry guard. It is repeatedly called a golem by Rhonin, but he is unsure. Is there a chance that this fiery being is an enslaved fire elemental, such as a firelord?
Thanks for any replies.

1) manta is not in WoW itself. or maybe it is and just no one has found it. doubtful
2) golems and elementals are 2 different types of creatures 9although they share similar natures. the creature was called a fire golem but it may be a fire elemental. if it is a fire elemntal it could be a firelord (assuming a firelord is just the title for a powerful fire elemental) but we really have no ay of being sure. from the description however it sound similar to fire elementals seen in WoW so theres a good chance it is.

There are numerous varieties of fire elementals. Examples include Firelords and Phoenix.

I was thinking along the lines of a firelord. The armour and skeletal face reminded me of one.

its a good possibility seeing as how chris metzen went back through the lore when looking for things for WoW. in fact the firelord for warcraft 3 could easily have been designed after the description given in the books.
hey remember that demon deathwing melded into the dragon soul. do you think....hmm im starting to theorize again...
it could be many things. each just as likely as the last.

Newbie question:
Couldn't it have been an infernal? I mean, the Dragonmaw's were demon worshippers, wern't they?

seems unlikely. also nekros was a warlock so i think he would recognize or at least sense it was a demon. which it wasnt. also no infernal ive heard of wears armor. however anythings possible so i won't say it can't be i'll just say its a long shot.

Well, technically Infernals aren't Demons; they're constructs that are made and used by demons. Just like golems... And the early Infernal concept art did indeed show them as wearing armor; recall that DotD was written before RoC came out.
In short; I say it's an Infernal. I even recall reading in "Well of Eternity" that Neltharion captured and experimented on one of them...

It was a golem, quite simply. Perhaps it was an Infernal, as they too are a sort of "Golem". The thing was described as reactionary, and didn't do anything unless it was ordered to, or saw its charge violate the rules it was given. Fire Lords and Elementals have their own wills and Fire Lords especially exhibit the desire to break away from any sort of control, and one wouldn't stand for a second being ordered by a mere Orc.

Warlocks are notably more than just a 'mere orc' however.

In certain respects, yes, but not to Elemental Lords. Warlocks are still mortals, which leaves them as 'mere' regardless.

I'd like to see how some fire elemental stands up against Gul'dan.

Hey, I love Gul'Dan just as much as the next WC2 Player, but Necros was no Gul'Dan. And even then I think that against a Fire Elemental LORD, IMO at best Gul'Dan would have a sliver of a chance of survival, if retreat were his mode of course action. Against regular Elementals, sure, he'd mop the floor with 'em. No questions asked.

Let's keep in mind that melee Firelords are not in the same ballpark as Ragnaros.

Kept. Though I wasn't even think anywhere near the scale of power as Ragnaros. In that instance, Gul'Dan would've been simply f*cked. Pity...

You vastly underestimate Gul'dan. He would mop the floor with anything less than the best. You don't get totured in warlock magic by Kil'jaeden without something to show for it.

Trust me, I'm taking all of Gul'Dan into perspective. He did fear the sheer existence of Medivh, and Medivh's (and Sargeras') resurfacing demonic powers could probably be compared to Ragnaros' current strength. That said, he'd have no chance VS a fully fledged Old God, but an elemental lord would provide more than a seasonable challenge. One that I wouldn't bank money on either side.

Hmm...Medivh vs. Ragnaros...
I'd rather see Aegwynn fight him, as I am convinced she's more powerful and skilled than Medivh.

skilled yes. she had 800 years of practice. its all in how you use it. same goes for the demon soul. weve seen how powerful that thing is, however nekros doesn't know how to use it. that being said it could easily be a firelord since it is tied to the disk. Nekros may not be powerful but he controls the disk and therefore controls the creature, wether it be golem, infernal, or firelord.
and Gul'dan was mighty powerful. he did raise islands from the deep seas and even maiev said there are few powers left that could do such a thing. that being said, he probably would put up a decent fight for a bt before becoming overwhelmed by ragnaros.
