Ok, this has been confusing me for a while. Everytime the High Elven government made a desicion, they were referred to as the "Council of Silvermoon". Not once do they mention a King. Suddenley, Kael appears and we find out that he's part of the High Elven Royal Family. Wouldn't a HE monarch be mentioned once in 6,000 years of history? Wouldn't they at least tell us Dath'Remar made himself King in the manual when they talk about him? Do they ever mention this in the lore, or made it up when Kael came along?

Well I thought it was assumed that Dath'remar made himself the authority until death. My guess is that while the King was an important icon for the people, they didn't have much in the way of political power. A figurehead head of state if you will.
Of course now with the fall of Silvermoon and Quel'thalas the Prince has taken full command. Does it say anywhere who Kael's father or mother is and where they are?

Aside from Dath'Remar and Kael, the only high elven king yet mentioned is Anasterian, Kael's dad (I assume) who was the king of Quel'Thalas during the Second War. I assume he died in Arthas' invasion as opposed to the Second War, because in Frozen Throne, Kael's still a prince. Unless Anasterian was Kael's granfather. Anyway, until someone tells me otherwise, I assume Anasterian is Kael's daddy, and died during the Scourge invasion.
But to address your specific issue, here's an excerpt from the World of Warcraft story:
"As time wore on, Quel'Thalas became a shining monument to the high elves' efforts and magical prowess. Its beauteous palaces were crafted in the same architectural style as the ancient halls of Kalimdor, yet they were interwoven with the natural topography of the land. Quel'Thalas had become the shining jewel that the elves had longed to create. The Convocation of Silvermoon was founded as the ruling power over Quel'Thalas, though the Sunstrider Dynasty maintained a modicum of political power. Comprised of seven of the greatest high elf lords, the Convocation worked to secure the safety of the elven lands and people. Surrounded by their protective barrier, the high elves remained unmoved by the old warnings of the Kaldorei and continued to use magic flagrantly in almost all aspects of their lives."
Now I'm acting under the assumption that the Convocation is the same as the Council. Might not be, though. Take from it what you will.
