It used to be said that I was a champion of the single player forum, that I was one of the most active members of the community here, but recently I've lost the will to return here and make many of the same arguments as I did two years ago. I seem to return strictly out of habit now. I'm wondering why some people have stayed. I miss the fervor and want to know why I lost it.

Champion of the Single Player forum? Wow. Romanov always seemed to be the big fish when I first showed up.

I'm in the same situation. I think I kind of lost interest since I won't be able to play WoW. I'll probably have to wait ages till the next warcraft game I'll be able to play.

The reason that is making me coming there is the repeated usage of stolen knowledges by some miserable mortals, those foolish creatures are just calling us.

More seriously, But the discussions around the warcraft lore or about the characters found in the warcraft history is the reason of me coming there, even when i don't log in or post due to lack of time of a busy life, i am in lurker position around those threads.
When i think about it, i used the lurking form for years in this forum before i decide to finally register here.

I have no interest in other part of the warcraft3.net forum neither in off topic content of this SP forum, whatever "heat" or "cold" argument there can be.

The people and personalities that you find in this community. Very unique and special.

Champion of the Single Player forum? Wow. Romanov always seemed to be the big fish when I first showed up.

That was meant with no disrespect towards Romanov in any way. Rather I am refering to the time after the huge crash in June/July of '03 that resulted in a short term loss of the spf. Romanov and I were two of the biggest advocates of its return. The term "Champions of the Single Player Forum" became integrated into common discussions at the time.

lol :g laugh:

Seriously...

We all have a life.
Mine is becoming more difficult after each passing day.

And I can clearly see this in the rarity, the shortness and the low quality of my recent posts.

However, I doubt that I'll leave this place.

As Kalos said, there are far too many unique people that I consider "friends", and it is always a pleasure to browse these boards, no matter if the lore discussion is lower than the old days :g grin:

For one thing, since I'm not playing WoW, this is my primary source of new WarCraft lore. For another, this:

As Kalos said, there are far too many unique people that I consider "friends", and it is always a pleasure to browse these boards, no matter if the lore discussion is lower than the old days

goes just as much for me. You guys are great.

As for the other forum here that I spend entirely too much time in, the RPGs; not only is it just plain fun, someone's got to keep up the SPF presence there with King headed to boot camp.

And I, even being a newbie (2 months register, only) am willing to help this keep going on, because even with the short quantity of threads I´ve seen here, compared to you all, I got really addicted to all these enjoyable discussions and lore (even if I can´t play WoW). You guys are very nice people, very recent FRIENDS I´ve made...

The "Great Crash"? What's that?

I returned to this forum simply because I missed you, although my knowledge of Warcraft is now below the acceptable limit and my free time has become more of a theory.

Kingcrazygenius
04-12-04, 07:10 AM
Well I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say you're always welcome here as one of us.

I am curious though; why is it that you no longer have much in the way of free time? New job/school/criminal empire/vampire cult?

The great forum crash was then the forums stopped working for weeks, over a month, then when they finally came back online, all accounts, and forums, had been erased. It other words it was a gigantic failure that destroyed alot of things, some forums have never been replaced. Who could forget killme and her NCF?

I come to these forums purely out of habit, if I went away for a month and came back, I bet you'd never hear of me again.

I still sort of have the same feelings for Warcraft until now. But uh... Did you really have to resurrect this 3 year old thread, my friend?

Reign of Kalos
15-05-07, 05:51 AM
I suppose I didn't have to. Combination of factors made me thoughtful for these times. A new thread would be hollow of the spirit that was once here, it fitted what was needed, what I wanted to remember.

It was fun, and if there was one last thread I wanted to see at the top of this forum, it would probably be this. The SPF, she had her days and lived them well, we remember most gracefully.

Plus, wanted to see if anyone was around or had I really made the last man standing position. Because then I'd have to switch the lights off as I go, and noobody wants that duty.

Med. MapGuy
15-05-07, 05:57 AM
Ah... yes. Unfortunately, I really haven't retired from Warcraft just yet... :y-hello: But gosh! The SPF forum is gone? Is there an archive? How sad... All those wonderful conversations...

Reign of Kalos
15-05-07, 06:18 AM
Most of it is there, for now. Can't promise it'll always be, so I took an hour or so this morning to do a little refreshment, seeing some great threads on the way.

Sadly, there's nothing before 2003, the Great Forum Wipe that year took out all the archives beyond that. No record of early Kalosisms.

We had an excellent run TBH. All good things... as the episode says. How about those orcs then

Med. MapGuy

Gah! I hate sad endings. Is everyone from the old days really gone?

Reign of Kalos
15-05-07, 07:29 AM
Depends on who you count, but most people I haven't seen in a while. Diskordjah is obviously still around, I wonder back in every so often to check out what is happening. Most of the names I remember haven't been seen in six months if not more.

Inquisistor7

Nephalim, Flamestrider, and myself have found a new stomping ground. It's quite a nice place, I must admit. Its purpose is lore. I think you guys should join us. The SPF might not survive, but some of its community can! Albeit at a different place...

Finally, here's to good times!

Farewell.

A little offtopic.

It's sad that no more good campaigns are made...

Last one was book 5 of Wanderers of Sorceria and after it- NOTHING.

Most mappers focus now on multipayer maps, mainly AoS maps- AotZ, DotA, SL, HoSK, EotA:T, DoE, LoE, LoL, AoM, Hive's Nexus, Naruto: 3rd Shinobi Wars(total ****)... There are loads of them.

World of Warcraft: Blessing or Curse? Ultimately, it was the demise of this place. That and poor linkage on our new hosting, hasn't been the same since they stripped out the main page and replaced all the classic content with this new minimal look. People stopped finding this place and soon enough, the place ran dry.

All the great campaign makers didn't want to bother with a game that has now been succeeded, and to be totally honest Warcraft 3 wasn't exactly a very advanced engine at all, barely more than parlor tricks from the graphical effects. Well done, but nothing brilliant and taxing of the systems. Designed to run on anything practically.

Meh, it is ok. Everything has its time.

Hmmm. So it's bad that Warcraft has smalll system requirements, yeah? No offense, but it sounds just stupid.

Being simple is good for me. And it has proven many times with computer games. Look at Oblivion, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Gothic 3- what links those games? INCREDIBLY badly made game engine. They go slow on the best machines sometimes. Call of Juarez can be added here, but this one has something to look at.

My conclusion is that most game making firms are just lazy or have some contracts with firms producting PC components. Those games aren't so slow because they can't work faster. It's because of stupid mistakes and overloading them with unnecessary, demanding technologies.

Compare 2 games which were relased in similiar time- Bard's Tale and Fable. Bard's Tale had huge requirements when it came out. Fable worked on quite high settings when I had Geforce 4200 Titanium, 256 of ****ty DDR and Intel 4, 2,00 Ghz. And it looked better on those settings than Bard's Tale on max. settings on a good computer of a friend of mine. Isn't that strange?

And why's that? Fable was just made well. It has beatiful light and water effects without using all those blooms and other **** which only cut down your fps rate.

Fable, among with Ubisoft's PoP series and Warcraft 3 are the exceptions- they look well and they work well. Gothic 3 and Oblivion only look well. And isn't that funny that few weeks after relasing Oblivion some amator made a mod which in a very simple way improved outdoor graphics and at the same time increased fps by 5-10? It only shows how half-baked most games are.

Meh, I never got into WoW and thus saved my life from becoming engulfed in the meaningless dribble of MMORP Gaming

mastablasta2000

And you saved some money ^^

I can't imagine myself paying for a GAME monthly, like for gas or water- that's just stupid for me. I can pay ONCE for a game.

Besides, I didn't like WoW when I played it. Fighting sucks there(like in most MMORPG's). I prefer the style of Diablo 2 or Fable.

About campaigns- Razorclaw is preparing 6th book of Wanderers of Sorceria, so there will be at least 2 good campaigns made- this + Heart of the Storm mod.
