I think the best one is definitely Gollum/Smeagol. The graphics in the movie are awesome, he is for sure the most complex character in the whole story, and his little sayings are so cool!!!! Legolas also owns but that's just because he's an elf and cuts things up like it's nobody's business. :y-sneaky:

Unnamed Rohirrim #334, he kicked. Ok more seriously Gimli, power to the dwarves.

Thorin was neat, though he wasn't in LotR...
Well, either Gandalf or Saruman.

The one-eyed pink fluffy Orc that led the attack on Gondor.

That would be Gothmog.

Heh... my brother is a complete nut about LOTR. He's constantly spewing stuff...

My vote goes to Boromir.

If we're talking all of those books, and not just Lotr:

Movie: Aragorn

Book: Fingolfin, without a doubt.

What about Groin the dwarf?
Groin was an ancestor of Gimli. Look it up in his family tree at the end of the book.
Groin -> .... -> Gloin -> Gimli
Or I got it all wrong, and it was just my imagination...

He also appears in the parody "Bored of the Rings"... well not exactly, but one of the characters is Gimlet, son of Groin, who travelled with Frito and the other hobbits. It's a fun book. Gollum is known as Goddamn for similar reasons.

EDIT: Indeed, Groin was Gimli's grandfather. Googled it.

I was wondering why he isn't anybody's favorite character.

No Sam lovers? But he's so precious!!!

Movie: all of the non-Frodo hobbits. They're precious.

Book: Gimli. The movies made him comic relief, which was pretty sick and twisted of them. Seriously. He wasn't constant fun, with no serious parts, and my serious I don't just mean 'we're gonna die' serious. In the book his relationship with Legolas meant something, and in the movie they screwed that over.

Checked my books at the index.

Gimli son of Gloin son of Groin.

Therefore Groin would be Gimli's grandfather.

Wow. I really can't believe Legolas only got two votes. What I wouldn't GIVE to be able to shoot a bow and arrow like that. Legolas, all the way.

w/e.

He still kicked the most ass.

If I have to pick a different character because Legolas is "over glorified" and that means he can't be anyone's favorite, I would have to go with Haldir. Oh wait, he's the same thing as Legolas. Except for the fact that he dies. Ok so my REAL second pick is Aragorn. He can kick some serious butt too.
