...and don't bother posting it! This forum has 0 tolerance for advertisements, especially those who join just to advertise.

To all good members on this site, I say to you: This is my idea of a first line of defence agaisnt advertisements, and it may help a little. Hopefully, if this works, someone will Sticky it and... yeah. Less ads?

Excuse my double posting, but edit has vanished for now. I must, however, say:

This is a spam thread.. I mean come on, do you think people who are advertising their site are just gonna be like "Okay, they asked me not to advertise. I guess I shouldn't!"

Posts like these cause just as much clutter as advertisements..

Ad-Breaker? Sounds like someone's got a little case of wannabe-mod...ah, well, not a bad idea, if it gets a sticky.

I still doubt this will have that much effect.

Whether this thread works or not really comes down to whether the postee of the adds is doing it with good intentions or whether they are doing it in order to break rules.

I don't think they care about breaking the rules, as they generally post once or twice.

I'm agreeing with Ralf here. Not all advertisers want to break our rules, but most do. So now I seek them out, monitor the posts of repeat offenders, and give advertisers/spammers hell. It's more for fun than anything else, but the advertising/spamming in the Community and Map-Making Forums is getting really bad.

You're starting to sound like a school teacher..

I say just let the mods handle it..

Why? Because there's only 3 of them IN TOTAL! One for Off-Topic, one for War of Corruption, and one administrator. The main ad realms are in the Community and Map-Making forums.

Sorry to doule post, but I have reached 3 victories as of today(or perhaps earlier).

I stand upon the broken accout of an advertiser. He has been... how do I say this... deleted. He was one of three members to advertise the same site. Now he is gone.

I have made my fifth legitimate report of advertising today, which makes me reach my weekly quota in three days. I have found that Rush must have been around, as courses of action have been taken.

This thread is working to a moderate degree of success. The advertising in this forum has gone down by 100%. Of course, it's only been three days, but I think it will work.

Sticky this thread, please.

Actually, there was another advertisement thread, so it hasn't gone down by 100%. You can't say this is working effectively either until about a month or two.

Actually, advertisements for legal web material (i.e. no child pronography, no ROMs, hacks, cracks, or warez, and no porn at all since it's against forum rules) that isn't a community that competes with the site (such as a private fansite) is prefectly fine. There was a case a while back with a certain general blizzard game fansite, and Hiro announced it perfectly fine. It wasn't a map and mod center, nor a booming community, nor a specialized site, nor one with the features this one had. And it was fine.

So things like false iPod adds are not allowed, and maybe posting a link to a site equal to war3.net in stature, but advertising for other things is perfectly fine.

So, I can advertise for my site, a source and fansite for my story. (http://hunterstory.proboards18.com)

We can also advertise for webcomics, like posting a link to one and encouraging people to visit them. I also believe one wouldn't be banned for posting a link to ebay, or some major web group (aol.com, yahoo.com).

It would be really funny if I got banned for making this post. As it is I won't, and I want those who read this thread to know that there ARE exceptions to the rule of no advertising.

I understand you, Flak. I also beleive that you cannot advertise other forums... Especially if you spam the link...

Straight from Hiro's keyboard:

"3. Thou Shalt Not Advertise. We don't care if you want to help us earn money while we surf the net. We don't care of you found Britney Spears' personal photo album. We don't even care too much if you found a great Diablo II strategy on the XYZ site. This is our site, and we don't bring it to you to see it reduced to a Link-o-Matic bulletin board service. (If you see something we might want to post about, or something that would make a good addition to the site, please use the appropriate email address."

Eh, I'm working from the MC case, in which Hiro expressedly said, to the shock of everyone else, that it was fine.

it's Hiro, what do you expect? two months from now, when we see him again, he will change his mind.

BraveLiver, stop riding the jock. stop trying to sound like something you aren't with talk about quota's. report what needs to be reported and stop laming it up.
