Yesterday I was thinkng to the various units the Legion used in the last invasion...

DoomGuards
Pit Lords
Fel Hounds
Eredar? (Im pretty sure that he only Eredar we saw in RoC was Archimonde)
DreadLords

Hope I missed none, my memory could be lacking.
All the rest were Scourge units.

Now, here's my thought... the Legion seems to be lacking of a..."core unit"..
Something they would use en masse like the Scorge's Ghouls and the Alliance's footmens. All their units I mentioned above seems to be elite units...

So, whats the Legion main attack units? Maybe they dont have them at all? (This would explain the use of Scourge troops, even after the entering in the World...)

Just a random thought...to fill the sudden emptiness of this place :g grin:

Guess they don't really have one. Mostly their strategy seems to consist of keep summoning more demons until they are all dead. Felhounds seem to be the best choice for on masse attackers though. It would have all made alot more sense if they had more of the FT demon creeps in RoC.

Fel hounds looks to me as very specific units...
Their puropose was to sniff out magic sorces and slaying the enemy casters...

Why would a practically infinitely large army have any need of anything but their best troops? I think the elite troops get to invade worlds instead of the lowly slaves because of their superiority. The hierarchy of the Burning Legion seems simple enough for that to be the case.

He couldn't have; the Felguard model wasn't introduced until Frozen Throne. In spite of this, they are the Legion's main "cannon fodder" unit; Manual of Monsters comes right out and says so. My theory as to why they weren't introduced; the Scourge, even lowlier than the weakest demon, was filling in for them. The Legion uses mortal pawns, supported by their own champions for the main conquest, then sends in the demonic rank and file to mop up.

Well the workers or slaves of the Burning Legion were the NE, Orcs, HU, and UD. Azhara, Guldan, Medivh, and Nerzhul.
The workers in the campaign were the UD cuz they were inferior compared to the demons and were their workers.
Core units...huh? Fel guards? Siege could be that infernal cannon. Demon orcs? Naga are also part demons.

Correct, Surreal. Naga are hideous mutations of Night Elves, the first being Queen Aszhara and the Highborne. Their mutation occured because they were cast into the Maelstrom (where the Well of Eternity collided with the sea) during the Sundering (when Sargeras' summoning was foiled) and the vortex warped them horribly into what they are now. (Naga).

The Infernals are the Burning Legions main assault troops. At best, Felguards are just, well, guards. Did you see anything as pathetic as Felguards when Archimonde was still alive? The Burning Legion is meant to be the most destructive force in the universe! Don't you remember the "Burning Legion is so tough we can't make it a playable race" thing? O.K, the BL turned out to be as hard to beat as telling a peon to make a few towers, but still, it's just not right!

Worker: Enslaves Souls (little void walkers)

Tier 1 Melee: Fel Guard

Teir 1 Ranged: Succubi

Tier 1 Air: Nether Dragon Welp

Spellcaster: Eredar Diabolist

Tier 2 Air: Nether Drake

Siege: Infernal Machine

Tier 3 Melee: Pitlord (mannoroth model)

Tier 3 Air: Nether Dragon

Heroes: Dreadlord, Corrupted Demon Hunter, eredar Warlock, some forth thing

It even had building and unit upgrades

I'm not sure if this concerns this thread,but,in WoW,there are lvl 21 demon mobs named Burning Legionnaires that look like short,blue Doom Guards.

If anything,that would be one of the Burning Legion's lower castes of soldiers.The Felguards I saw in WoW screenshots were level 44....

From the middle of nowhere, I ask: Are satyrs demons, or at least part of the Burning Legion?

In the Warcraft 3 Manual the description of satyrs is:

Satyrs were once night elves who practiced the magical arts in the days before the War of the Ancients. These magically corrupted night elves, having given themselves over to the will of the Legion, became terribly cured. Though they retained a portion of their magical power, their bodies were warped and twisted into those of beasts. Now the satyrs exist only to harry their hated night elf cousins and obey the will of the Legion - which they believe will one day return.

I read that as a definite yes.

satyrs are part of a group called "tainted". the tainted ones are those that have been physically and mentally twisted by demonic energies, but havent yet gone entirely demonic. satyrs are tainted, as are Fel Orcs.

Given that they have been satyrs for ten thousand years, is it even possible for them to become demons? Or could it be that satyrs don't want to be full fledged demons?

Neither Satyrs nor any other Tainted can become demons without the direct intervention, the sponsorship if you will, of a Legion higher-up, such as Kil'Jaeden or Mannoroth.

Felguards, on the other hand, are full-fledged Demons in their own right; they form the bulk of the Legion's infantry.

Illidan is a special case, I'd say. He doesn't really fit neatly into any one category; if pressed to define him, my best guess would be simply "Night Elf/Demon hybrid."

Let's see if I've got this right...

Tainted:

-Magic addict (perhaps demon blood as well?)
-Twisted by demon magic/blood
-Free willed (albeit, as magic junkies they're obsessed with magic)
-Magic power is determined by where they take it from

Demon:

-Has demon blood (also known as "Burning Blood")
-Part of Burning Legion
-Will is directed by superiors in the Legion
-Exists only to destroy and create chaos
-Great magical power

I think Illidan is tainted, but very good at taking magic from powerful demons. Otherwise, he fills all the tainted criteria so far.

Theres also the Vile tormenters/temptresses. I think they're melee units.
They are creeps in outland maps and in the campaign where you have to use Illidan to close the portals.

:y-idea: I think Blizzard could make the Legion a playable race by underpowering them a little, like, after Archimonde´s fall, the Legion could begin to scatter, and some free-willing demons could organize and make a new race... I just think Blizzard could think on something to make the game a little more "varied", because, HA, OC, UD and NE only are becoming a little repetitive (but still VER FAR FROM BECOMING BORING!!). I also think that, after the failure of the Human Alliance, the Blood Elves and the Dwarves could make their own playable races, and Humans to really be just "Humans", by now on... And the Naga, too should become playable! So, Blizzard could put her brain to work a little variety on Warcraft III and WoW, by, for example, adding this "playable Burning Legion", in a possible new Expansion Pack for WC3. :y-thumbsu

Lord Xavius, Azshara's advisor who was killed by Furion, is resurrected by Sargeras as the first Satyr. He is given the power to transform other High Born into Satyrs, and does so. Then, Furion kills him again.

Also, we learn that Avianna is in charge of the afterlife for everything that flies, and that Ysera and Cenarius have a mother-son-like relationship, but are for some reason estranged.
