Okay, first of all, what the Hell? The old thread was active, it was near the top, it had maybe two attachments, there was no reason whatsoever for it to be included in the apparent purge, except possibly sheer size.

Second, let's just pick up where we left off. I'll repost the latest object data, as soon as I iron out some bugs I found since my last post.

Also, to confirm and reiterate; me, KCG, and Cerebral are meeting on Northrend, in Channel Zul, today at 8:00 PM GMT for some "practical research" into various methods of triggering RPGs. Three people should be all that's necessary, but if anyone else wants to join, I've got RPG maps of all sizes.

Yeah, the prunning seemed a bit...random. Oh well, out with the old and in with the new, and my post count is intact:)

See ya on Northrend in a hour or so Da'anastrasz

Sorry I had to bug out so early on you guys; had to get to class. How'd things go after I left? Do we need another "research session," or was this one sufficiently inspiring?

Kingcrazygenius

Things I like: Creep Spawning things, points of no return, shops with reletively benign items (don't mind seeing things like potions and ankhs, but necklaces of spell immunity are a nono) minibosses and such.

Things I don't like: Tomes in that level of frequency, ****ing tank thing.

OOOH! I had this cool idea! What if each character had a special unique item that only they could use (triggers would make it so that only they could pick it up, and once they do they can't drop or sell it). They would be like legendary items each based on the characters class. Da'anastrasz could have like Korialstrasz's something or other, Lady RaiN could get some obscure body part of Cenarius, Kingus could get a possession of a notable druid (possibly even Malfurion, or that other arch-druid). It could be very very cool. The items would be noticably powerful, but not freakishly uber, and it would be kinda random if you got it in the game or not. Very cool if you do but its not necessary for the game. Each item would have two things or so that enhance the character in a way that would corolate to them.

Cerebral_009

Right.

Now for a discertation of my experience of the "research". Firstly, I'll have to admit that I wasn't 'all there' all of the time: I was playing in a window trying to check out the triggers in the editor at the same time - something that I wont be doing again. It was kinda enlightening, though.

However, that was just in Warchasers, it doesnt explain why my experience of that last map was so poor. I am running at half RAM at the moment, my extra 256MB stick is naffed and awaiting replacement, and I'm also running a 56k modem untill wendesday... when I'll have a fab' 1MB connection speed. heheheheheheheh. So that probably explains the laggyness. It was sooooo bad. Mabey it was the infernals, but what are you guys running at in terms of processor speeds, RAM, and connection speed?

Anyway. The answer is.. yes. It helped. But I think I'd like to have a game for the games sake sometime. Warchasers multiplayer is actually quite fun! Expect the tanks....

EDIT: King, that sounds like a funky idea - but where do you suggest we get the items from, and when should we get 'em?

Oooooooh, I LIKE that! Would anyone object to some of these appearing in the next version of the data?

You know, I'm not exactly sure. It's been a while since I looked at my specs; I think I also have 512 MB of RAM, and a cable modem. You should check that last map out solo; it gives each player wood depending on how many players there are, so you've always got either 3 or 4 heroes, while still forcing you to earn the gold to buy them (unless you cheat, like me). Perhaps we could do the same?

Alright, custom items are a go. What we having then?

I fancy a dagger. Kellen's dagger to be prescice. But on a custom vein, like a blink abilty and the ability to detect hidden units - like the sword of Thundera! Sight beyond sight!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

... ahem.

Well congrats!!! You must've aced those exams, 'cause them's some high end specs you got there Mr Kalos! I'm quite taken aback.

I'll soon match your connection speed but at best I've only got half your RAM. I do have a Power PC G4 1Ghz processor pumping 64bit processing and a top end graphics card, so I don't feel too bad.

Glad you like the idea, but didn't we determine that blink in a dungeon crawl was a really bad idea?

Lesse...everyone needs a legendary hero to take after...

Cerebral: Kelen the Rogue (who apparently isn't Kelen the Seeker)

Da'anastrasz: Virtually any named dragon, but Korialstrasz (sp) would probably be his pick

Lady Rain: Either Califax (the Keeper who with Maiev kept Illidan imprisoned) or Cenarius himself (possibly his horn?)

Kingus: Either Malfurion or some sort of Tauren spiritual leader

Lavigne: Jaina Proudmoore

Az'koon: Hellscream, Bladefist, or Deadeye

Kalos: Drak'thul or even Thrall

Romanov: Lothar or Danath

Kayrne: No one but Uther would do!

7th Inquisitor: Antonidas perhaps?

Death Scythe: Either Arthas himself or Baron Perenolde

Ici: Vashj, Sylvanas, Tyrande, someone who was a prominent archer

Disko: Perhaps Rokkan, perhaps Sen'jin, perhaps Vul'jin

That forest troll: Zul'jin

Neph: Mojo Stormstout:)

That Warlock: Gul'dan or Illidan

Kyrun: Mannoroth

Rudy: Hell if I know

Quetzalcoatl: Kael'thas or Dath'remar (sp)

Param: That archbishop, Alonsus Faol I think his name was

Purplebeard: Muradin I guess

That's everyone I think.

My character could have something belonging to his old Stromgardian friend Danath...
Maybe a sword, a shield, an armor...

Kingcrazygenius
15-10-04, 07:07 AM
I don't know what kinds of fixes you are doing WarDragon, but make sure one of them is making Lady RaiN's healing spell actually heal! Without that her only really useful ability is Legacy of Cenarius, Cruel Foliage is nice but she's a delicate caster, so that ability won't be used very often. And her poison skill thing is just a little something extra.

Kingcrazygenius
15-10-04, 02:26 PM
Few things I feel I need to bring up.

1. Romanov's purchasing tooltip mentions his ultimate being Mass Teleport, when it is Comrade Trotsky.

2. Comrade Trotsky is WAY overpowered. His barrel of explosives ability needs a major nerf, as does his suicide bombing spell.

Kingcrazygenius
15-10-04, 05:33 PM
The fact remains you're a priest, and you have a priest icon and a priest's body also, because Quetzalcoatl who is never around took all the blood mage stuff.

If you want stuff changed then say so, cuz right now you're a blood mage high priest and that doesn't even make sense!

O.K Here's what I've done:

Replaced all golems and golem terrain with elementals and fire terrain.

Removed the disease cloud ability for cosmetic reasons.

Greatly improved pathing in all areas.

Set aside specific areas fro creep (Elemental, Undead and alliance) Spawning.

Made the shipyard invulneralble.

Set aside 3 main spawning sites for the undead and alliance, outwith their respective bases.

Set aside two spawning points for elementals in total.

Naga will spawn from the sea - they only have one 'destroyably' spawning point, but it's a high levle area.

I've reworked the cosmetics of the starting area.

I've updated unit (Creep and critter) Placement

Set up triggers for hero selection

Set up triggers for resource managment

Set up triggers for death

Set up triggers for Kingus Rex (password to be confirmed)

Set up the starting blocks for all spwaining triggers.

------------------------------------------------

I'm back to work now and I wont be home for 24 hours. I plan to do some serious triggering on wednesday - but I'll need to have have the full map. After wednesday, It'll be too bitty to work on seperate elements. So WarDragon and Krewl Rain, I need what you've got to add to what I've got before wednesday, and before next week's out we should have a beta-able, playable map to pick over.

Peace.

I've been meaning to ask, what difference does it make? You can't really see it in the writing style or anything, and it's incredibly easy to fake things online, so why should it influence anybody's judgement so? (Apart from if you plan to hit on them of course, but you have to be very careful that they aren't just boys pretending to be female to get attention!)

I think it's spelled 'Ovaries'... but I may be wrong. Anyway, BornIn, that sums it up nicely.

Now, one or two more things to add to my list.

I intend to fix my unit's abilities soon.
I'll sort the Skins and Icons for all those that 'ave 'em too.
I've changed the 'Nook' back to the 'Neuk' as it should be. (grrrrrr)
I've done more pathing checks and tweaks.
I've tweaked the amount of 'stand alone', non-spawning units in the map.

I've set in place the systems to launch a force from the alliance and Undead bases every 10 (up for negotiation at beta stage) minutes. The two forces will ride out and hack at each other in the middle portion of the map - there should be sufficent numbers to keep the fighting going for around 3-4 minutes with no intervention from the playable heros.

I will set up an alliance trigger or two - but I havent put much thought into that yet, that'll come post Beta. I'm really not too sure how that'll work out, yet.

Oh, WarDragon, would you mind doing a couple of custom units for me.. save me some time?

I need a Techno-Hamster. We did promise him. Just a summonable item like the mech-critter.

And I need an ethereal, high HP, High MP necromancer unit with the raise dead and Death Coil abilities, with the ghost Kel'thazud model and the necromancer sound set. They will be for an original spawn zone - they gaurd the Lich at the ruined tower, and raise lots of skellies from piles of corpses when the heros come close. Problem is that the Lich can re-coporealise the necromancers while he still lives.. so these Necromancer Ghosts are going to be spiritually bound to the Lich as Sylvanas is to Ner'zhul. The only way to stop this spawn zone perom' is to kill the Lich - and that wont be easy...

I also need everyone to give some more thought to their custom item/s.

Inquisistor7

Dude, it's definitely "Nook." The word "Neuk" doesn't exist in my dictionary.

Spelling aside, I must say that I am excited to see this whole project make so much progress as of late, despite losing the original thread. I am afraid that I haven't much to add at the moment, but in a week I wil have a much better internet connection (a cable line if memory serves), which means that, for the first time ever, I will be able to play games online without my parents killing me (my current modem operates at less than 56k, and I have only one phone line, limiting internet use in general, so they don't let me use it for things like games). By the way, I'll put some thought into my own custom item. So please keep up the good work.

Cerebral_009
17-10-04, 08:07 AM
Encouragement noted and appreciated, Inquisistor. But no, it's 'Neuk'. I dont necessarily expect you to know it, it's north east local (Scottish) dialect - based in gaelic roots. There's a pub right accross the road from my place of work called the East Neuk...

...That was inspiration to tell the truth.

Kalos: dang, that's one impressive machine; congrats, man!

KCG: most of the item suggestions sound good; I'll get to work. Couldn't do anything until now because I was out of town yesterday, and had other stuff to take care of today. About RaiN; I honestly have no freaking clue why her healing spell doesn't work. All the fields appear to be in order, and it's only a aesthetically changed from the Alchemist's spell. I'll take another look, though. Trotsky shall be nerfed, and Romanov's tooltip fixed.

Pbot and BornIn: what King said.

"KaySeeGee:" nice try. :y-wink2:

Cerebral: sounds good, all of it. I had also been meaning to ask what the heck a "neuk" was, so thanks for clearing that up. Anytime you'd like to get together for a Battle.Net rpg session, you know how find me...

We'll all be RPG in our own map before Christmas... aint that an interesting concept?!?

It's not all brilliant. It has some sort of 'issue' (In that according to it there is no apparent cause) meaning I have no sound card at all! Using the built in one on the motherboard, but that tkaes speed out of the cpu constanly, with wouldn't happen half as much as if the sound processing was done by PCI slotted sound utilities. You wouldn't believe how much money you can save when you build it yourself, hundreds.

Any day's good for me; I generally spend a good chunk of the afternoon playing WarCraft anyway, and doing it with a friend is always an improvement! Wednesday or Friday would be best, though, considering I have a class at 5:30 (10:30 for you) on Thursdays...

One thing, though. Although I have my new modem all installed and stuff, I am waiting for my line to be activated for my 1MB connection - that's due to happen on wednesday, but it might be later on on the wednesday evening... we'll just have to see.

I might get a bit funk on tuesday night and import our RPG avatars custom data into Warchasers. Replace the blademaster with my self and the goblin/megatron x with you? A dragon and a psycher take up the city's dark cup?

What do you think?

Air force? Well that's a whole different game! Who wouldn't want to fly a 20 million (rough estimate) aircraft that most enemies can't even touch? Better than being on the ground, where most people die. Still you be careful, it's not easy from what I've seen (not to mention experienced).

Ok, then I go for the Danath's sword.

Romanov the 77th got the sword from the mighty warrior in the flesh, after he and few brave stromgardian conscripts, infiltrated an heavily defended troll outpost and slayed the Troll Warlord while he was sleeping, sending the entire Troll army into chaos...

The sword's ability should consist in a very powerful blow (add some fire or lightning effect if you want) maybe with some AoE effect...

Wait, Disko's Troll is of the forest variety!?

And if he gets Zul'jin who does the other troll get?

WarDragon
20-10-04, 08:53 AM
I think Disko was going on the assumption that ALL trolls revere Zul'Jin, even the Island-dwellers like himself. However, that does make it a bit messy...

Disko, would you mind if I changed that to something of Sen'Jin's?

The Houndmaster's Whip: The terrifying whip which belonged to Hakkar the Houndmaster during the first invasion of the Legion fell into Kyrun's hands when the mighty demon fell. With it, Kyrun was able to unleash untold atrocities on foes and the the innocent alike.

I was thinking of aerial shackles, but aerial shackles immobilizes oneself as well as its victim. Entangling roots maybe? Can anyone suggest the projectile art? I'm not quite sure if there are any suitable... if there aren't I'll rethink a new item.

Kingcrazygenius
20-10-04, 09:14 AM
Who the **** is the Houndmaster? By famous people I meant famous people who actually exist in Warcraft. For your character I was thinking Mannoroth's Blade of Destruction, but that was just me.

Cerebral_009
20-10-04, 11:00 AM
No no, Kayseagee, the boy speaketh sense. Hakkar was in WoE, a non-major, but highly relevant, character who heralded the comming of the firts invasion of azeroth. Infact, probably a good deal more significant than even the mighty Mannaroth in terms of historical significance. Mannarorth was the second greater demon to be summoned, Hakkar was the first.

I also agree that Zul'jin is a figure head for all trolls. Major charisma.

Righty - O.

I am disapointed to announce that I've made little progress on the Dalaran RPG. For that I apologise; yesterday was just one of those days. Much, Much wrongness.

Anyway, that aside I have made some good progress on a custom Warchasers map, now featuring KCG, Myself and WarDragon's characters exactly (more or less) as they appear in the Dalaran RPG. I plan to add Kalos too.

I've rejigged the Tank section... we got ourselves some super, hardcore tanks. They really are Rock'n'Roll tanks now! Heheheheheheheh!

I also plan to add a new section of map, in the middle. You'll teleport there at a specific location. Just to add some novelty. So, even as it stands right now, it's a fully playable map with three of 'us' as playable characters.

... Think of it as compensation.

=)

Kingcrazygenius
21-10-04, 06:15 AM
Exactly more or less huh?

Guess I'll see for myself when you give us the map.

WarDragon
21-10-04, 07:24 AM
Uh, Cerebral? There might be a problem with that "exactly, more or less" bit. You see, shortly after I posted the last version of the object data, I noticed a bug (which has since been corrected) with Kingus Crazyhoof's summon; namely, he can get an infinite number of them (due to my being lazy and basing the spell on Misha instead of Pheonix). As I said, I have corrected this for the next update, but it may cause problems in WarChasers...

Yunn: due to whips being nigh-impossible to properly implement with WorldEdit in any way shape or form, would you mind having a net, instead? Say, "Hakkar's Net of Excruciation," perhaps?

Yeah, that's kinda what I was talking about. I was aware that things have moved on... I have an outdated version of the map but I'll sort out that spell. Also, most of the stats are as they were for the base units, not reflecting the stats of the characters from the RPG. They work, but they're not as they are in the Dalaran crawl.

Let me know what needs fixing. I'll post the map tomorroe when I'm home.

WarDragon
21-10-04, 01:53 PM
Alright, then. I'm making good progress on the items, King's spell was remade, and I think I may have fixed Lady RaiN's healing spell. You know, so it works.

And I don't see any need to post your re-done Warchasers here; we can just get it from you on Battle.Net. If you were referring to the Dalaran map, I was under the impression you'd be waiting until I sent you the revised character data...

WarDragon
23-10-04, 06:05 PM
King, do you really want to go adding more characters, with more custom spells and items, and more potential bugs, when we're this close to being done? I've always thought of Rowan Seven as being more of a FanFic staple than SP, and Goddess hasn't been here in months, and I don't recall her making any contributions to the map during her tenure. Even if we did want to include them, what kind of characters would they be? Neither one reads this thread, and everyone else in the map had at least a minimal hand in creatining their avatars. Bottom line, I don't think it would be a good idea to rock that particular boat at this time. I have no objection to giving either one a cameo, but the phase for adding new playable characters is, I think, past.

KR- I say e-mail them to Cerebral. That'll cut down on the number of things we need to attach, and he's more likely to successfully add them than myself.

Right, I sat down about an hour ago, fully intent on cracking on with the Dalaran map, only to realise that I'm outdated. I need everything we got as soon as possible.

Krewl Rain: My Thanks for the skins, and a job well done. :y-wink2:

WarDragon: ASAP would be great. I have all day tomorrow to give it my undivided attention. Did we manage to creat the necromancer units and the Techno-Hamster item? And let me take this oppertunity to thank you for your extended efforts and skills. :y-thumbsu

King: Are you happy with this? Any last minute changes, speak up now. I know how changable you can be... :g wink:

Regarding Warchasers X: King's summon is based on Lava Spawn, it is fine. I'll post it tomorrow. I've added a new -small-, Draconic themed, section, me, King and WarDragon (kalos to follow soon) are complete, I've totally upgraded the tanks, I've added a couple of secret items, and I've used this map to finalize my abilities for Dalaran.

Cerebral: My apologies for the tardiness with the update. I haven't had a chance to get on my computer all day, and its way too late to do any work now, as I have class in a bit under nine hours. Also, there are two spells that keep giving me grief no matter what I do with them, but I've finally decided to just do quick and simple replacements, and move on.

Deleate every string in there and make a new string and put spell in it for my healing rain spell so it plays her spell animation when she casts, it will loop aswell for its a channeling spell. You can put animation names in there if the char wont play there spell amination when casting eg attack if the model has no spell or slam animations at all eg anchents

Also found a tad bug with Cerarius' Legacy for casting it it narrow spaces gets one of the 3 spirits stuck on the wall

I think the only narrow space is those paths at teh start, so you wont have it when you remove those tomes of power when debugging is done

Eventually there will be some trigs that alow the char to pick up there uber item and any other chard cannot pick up that chars weapon. Cant have item theifs now

And with Kingus, I think using treants instad of anchent protecters wuold be better for the birth animation for the protecters so threw me off, just a thought

Yes, I am aware of all that. I'm also used to Tranquility having that field filled; why Blizzard took the "spell, channel" out of there, I'll never know.

Also found a tad bug with Cerarius' Legacy for casting it it narrow spaces gets one of the 3 spirits stuck on the wall

Rain of Chaos has the same problem. To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing to be done about it. Maybe Cerebral can fix it with his arcane pathing techniques; besides, as you said, it doesn't really matter.

Eventually there will be some trigs that alow the char to pick up there uber item and any other chard cannot pick up that chars weapon. Cant have item theifs now

That is the plan, yes.

And with Kingus, I think using treants instad of anchent protecters wuold be better for the birth animation for the protecters so threw me off, just a thought

I have to stick by my artistic decision on this one. The birth animation isn't that big of a problem, and I just think the Ancient Protector is better for such a burly summon.

And the rgb on wardragons true form unit should be reset to norm, for its not needed in my opinion

It is set to normal. A 1.17 bug causes the RGB on his normal form to carry over to the morphed form. Hence, the custom skin you were kind enough to provide. :y-kiss:

No sweat, Inquis. I'm fairly sure the RoC and TFT CDs are interchangeable once both are installed. And your item is already taken care of; you've got "Kassan's Keys of the Interrogator." It casts Silence, lets you Bash, and boosts your hit points.

I found a couple minor tooltip bugs while I was checking this awesome project out:

Some aura buffs (all coming from the custom items) are incorrect (they are still called brilliance aura, command aura, etc.)

Howl of Terror (hero ver.) has incorrect tool tip.

The Hawk Spawned by medivhs spell book (I think that was the item) is very cheesy because it can attack the first ground units (ghouls/aboms) and give the heroes an unfair advantage.

The psonic rogue has weird spell placements. 0,2 Is empty, yet one spell uses the place 3,1.

The globe item (uses custom icon) has a resale value of 5000 gold...

Anti-Magic shell has a 0 cooldown and no mana cost (on the item).

Silence has no mana cost (the item version).

Other than that, I must say it looks great. You guys have gotten pretty far with this, I really like a lot of the spell ideas (some are VERY creative and are well done).

You lie (just kidding, I'll fix it after Cerebral does his stuff with the current version).

The Hawk Spawned by medivhs spell book (I think that was the item) is very cheesy because it can attack the first ground units (ghouls/aboms) and give the heroes an unfair advantage.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again; the items will only be available very late in the game, and their appearance will be random. They are only placed near the beginning now for testing purposes.

The psonic rogue has weird spell placements. 0,2 Is empty, yet one spell uses the place 3,1.

Don't look at me, Cerebral did his stuff.

Anti-Magic shell has a 0 cooldown and no mana cost (on the item).

Silence has no mana cost (the item version).

That's because they're exactly the same as the Anti-magic Potion and Staff of Silence abilities. The former could be a problem, the latter shall remain as is.

While Disko' does what Disko' does best, I'll stick to what I know - hacking Blizzard maps.

WarDragon, KCG, Krewl Rain and Kalos are the four who made it into this map, purely because they're the people I've B.netted with. I'm also adding myself and 3 new heroes.

I'm changing the terrain slightly,

Adding new areas,

Adding New items,

Changing the Bosses and many of the enemy units - it's now a Naga Themed map, with one Uber-Kickass Warlock to contend with at the end.... =)

Just brainstorming an idea. Granted its a little late to be thinking of new characters, but hey.

Name:Genis the Crazed

Hero Type: Mana Rifter

Base Stats: Like the Liches. 1.5 STR per level, 1 AGI, and 3.5 INT, with extra points in INT until get to 57.

Hero Description: Mystical Hero, master of manipulating pure magic. Their attunment to mana allows them to naturally resist it's effects, and they can learn Mana Shield, Mana Drain, Mana Barrage, and Mana Golem.

Model: Creep Ghost

Brief History: Soon after the events of the third war, a meeting of utmost secrecy was held. Human Magocrats of Dalaran, Elven sorcerers of Quel'thalas, dark and sinister Troll magi, and even the vile warlocks of the orcs met in peace upon an island raised from the sea with their combined might. There a seminar of epic proportions was held, where the great powers discussed amongst one another the true purpose of magic and the most effective means to obtain and manipulate it. After weeks of heated debate most left, unchanging in their opinions. However a few of the most pragmatic magi stayed, finding with one another similar mindsets. They all agreed that the purpose of using magic was to become powerful. They also agreed that the popular forms of magic were far too inefficient or dangerous. They began experimenting with the rawest forms of magic spiralling about in the twisting nether, careful to filter out any inherant demon corruption, and in time they grew to master this pure magic. Declaring themselves to be not only the most powerful mages but the only true controllers of magic, they sent forth a single member among them, a former sorceress who in her discoveries no longer found use for her physical body.

Spells:

Mana Shield: Just like the naga sea witches', except its 1/1.75/2.5 points of damage absorbed a level

Mana Drain: Identical to the Blood Magi's

Mana Barrage: Based on the Destroyer's Orb of Annihilation. costs 15 mana per shot, does 20/40/60 damage. I don't care about the splash damage. Has some non-elemental looking projectile.

Mana Golem: The actual summon is based on the naga sea witches' ultimate. The summon's model is a voidwalker tinted blue. It has few hitpoints but a huge amont of mana and mana regeneration, a good mana shield, a powerful attack, a passive based on immolation that has something to do with raw mana leakage. A description that says to the effect of that the thing is so powerful and so difficult to keep intact that even a Mana Rifter needs perfect concentration.

It all seemed cool in my head.

It seems possible to me that the characters and general basis of the story could be used to write a more thorough story about adventures in Dalaran. As to who would do this I am not sure, since it would be awfully presumptuous of me to set myself up as a candidate for writing this. Besides that, there are more talented writers here than I. Anyway, the gist of this proposition is that the story of the SPF rpg be preserved and elaborated upon for the sake of not only keeping it (the SPF rpg) prevalent in people’s minds but also to provide a source of enjoyment to the forum.

Now, I completely understand why this idea would be rejected. After all, this is not a writing forum, this is the SPF. Plus, those heroes designed for the SPF rpg might be developed in ways those who created the characters did not intend.

Finally, another possible course of action would be to use the characters and setting to hold an online rpg similar to those held in the RPG forum. Aside from that, we could just allow the SPF rpg to continue on its current path.

A story would be cool, IF you could manage a story with that many characters in it (though I imagine many of the less interesting ones would be removed). My Naga incarnation Genius Rex is already set to appear in one of Pureauthor's stories after all, so I fail to see how any of it is an issue.

If you want to, I'll fully support and even read said story.

Thanks for the positive feedback, KCG. I would greatly appreciate your support.

Actually, I had Pureauthor's story in mind when this idea was conceived. You are right, though, the sotry' success would depend on its characters, and determining whose characters should be focussed on would be sort of difficult (since I don't want to infuriate people by having characters that are just cannon fodder). Nevertheless, it would probably end up being necessary.

Anyway, the precise contents of the story can be worked out over time. Considering how we already have a location and a cast of characters (which might have to be tweaked depending on how things turn out), I would suppose the next step would be to choose a writer and what genre said story would fall under. But I am getting ahead of myself; whether or not this story goes forward depends upon the consent of the primary creators of the map.

Considering it was WarDragon and I whom originally concieved the idea of a map with warcraft people named after us, I don't think you'll have any problems there.

Excellent. To begin with, who should write this thing? I am willing to do it myself if need be, but if someone more skilled wishes to do it, then I will gladly move out of the way. What I mean is that if a fellow like rowan or nephalim wishes to do this then I don't think I would be in he right to refuse them. There is also the fact that I am currently working on a fan fic and so cannot guarantee super frequent updates. Secondly, what type of story should this be? Comedy, action, something else? Or should it be left up to the author?

And before I forget, does anyone wish to submit more information about his character's personality or history before the story is begun?

Inquisistor7

It is worth mentioning, I think, that at the moment I have little background information on any of the characters created for the rpg. If memory serves, most of that information was contained in the previous thread (which no longer exists I'm pretty sure). So if, by chance, someone has that info I would much appreciate receiving it. In the strong likelihood that no one has said info, then I request that anyone with a character in the rpg please post some background and personality information. If I don't get any for a character then I will be forced to make some up on my own (which means your character probably won't be portrayed in a way you prefer). As far as those characters belonging to members who have left this place are concerned, well I will do what I can with them.

By the way, I have sent PMs to a couple of fellows whom I know to be authors who frequent this forum asking them if they are interested in writing this (if they are even interested). I would make such an offer to more people via PMs, but this is the single player forum rpg, so I don't want to go too far. (My that sounds elitist). Anyway, I know many of you are probably wondering why Idon't just say I'm doing the story instead of going to such trouble. Well, I am not entirely sure myself, but I guess it is because I want the best possible story to be written, and I am aware that I am not the best there is as far as writing goes.

Finally, if there are any preferences for what type fo story this should be then please make them known as soon as possible, otherwise it will be left up to the author (who at this rate will be I). I presume it would be an action oriented one with some humor (with character development and all that).

Thanks.

In the interest of time, and in ending these posts by me which contain not the promised story, this is the last call for character info. Please, if you want a hand in your character's role and personality then give me some infor by the end of the week. If possible, make the character bios like the ones in this thread:

Ask and ye shall recieve; one character profile coming up!

Name: Da'anastrasz, also known as the War Dragon.

Race: Red Dragon

Appearance: In his natural form, he's a bit larger than the average Red Dragon (though nowhere near the size of say, an Aspect), with a proud and noble bearing. He is somewhat more muscled than most dragons, and his crimson hide is liberally scattered over with scars, gained over centuries of battling the enemies of the Red Flight. One of his rear-facing horns is broken almost in half, and his eyes are a bright gold and glow softly.

Like most Dragons, Da'anastrasz may change his shape at will, and favors two different forms. When he expects to be fighting on the ground, or simply wishes to interact with mortals without hiding his true nature, he takes the form of a huge Red Dragonspawn. In this form, he stands twelve feet high, and retains most of the features of his true form. When the War Dragon wishes to be inconspicuous, he usually takes the shape of a slender High Elven male, with golden hair and green eyes, dressed in simple white robes. In this form, it is virtually impossible to tell that he is a Dragon without using magic.

Skills and Powers: Even among Dragons, Da'anastrasz is reknowned for his prowess in battle. Few enemies can withstand his raw physical might and firey breath, and his very presence inspires and heartens his allies, while striking fear into the hearts of his foes.

Unlike most dragons, he has no Arcane talent, but rather draws upon the power of Divine magic. His faith in Alexstrasza and in goodness itself empowers him. His magic is primarily supportive and healing, though he can also cast spells to weaken his foes, or blast them with holy fire.

Specialty: Primarily a warrior, with some support magic. Think Paladin, only more dragony.

Equipment: Da'anastrasz is never without the Orb of the Dragonqueen. This is a small, beautifully crafted sphere of flawless ruby, carved with images of Dragons, and imbued with a connection to Alexstrasza's divine might. It enhances his already formidable might, and increases the potency of his healing magic. In addition, the Orb may be used to revive a single fallen ally, or rejuvenate a large tract of desolated land; after using this power, it may not be used again for twenty-four hours, and the Orb's other blessings are suppressed for the same length of time. In his normal and Dragonspawn forms, the Orb is embedded in Da'anastrasz's scales at the base of his neck, and in Elven form he wears it on a medallion.

Besides the Orb, he owns a small number of weapons and armor, for use in his alternate forms; these are left in his lair, and he may summon them at will. As a Dragonspawn, he uses a large, bladed polearm, and breastplate; as an Elf, he carries a quarterstaff, topped with a golden dragon's head.

Alignment: Lawful Good.

Misc. Having been pressed into service by the Orcs during the Second War, Da'anastrasz carries a strong dislike for the Horde. Any Orc who wishes to gain his trust is in for a long and difficult struggle. He is somewhat more kindly disposed towards Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, both for their role in rescuing his Queen and for having witnessed their impressive accomplishments in such a relatively brief span of time. He was shocked, disappointed, and angered by the recent "fall" of the Blood Elves, and the depths of their arcane addiction. He has never met a Night Elf, but has heard good things about them from his elders, particularly Alexstrasza's tales of Malfurion Stormrage. He could go either way upon meeting his first Tauren; they have many qualities he admires (honor, courage, respect for nature), but their alliance with the Orcs makes them suspect.

I realize he's fairly powerful, so feel free to make him into a seldom-seen plot device, or something.

Name: Gen'hius Rex.

Race: Naga

Appearance: Much larger than a typical naga male, Gen'hius slithers about at the height of Mannoroth (whatever height he is at). He is also noticably darker than most naga, his scales a midnight blue with a crimson underbelly. His eyes are, if possible, even more freightening. Rather than the dark pupiless orbs of most naga, Gen'hius has two maelstroms of orange chaos swirling about in his eye sockets.

Skills and Powers: Though, as one would expect from his size, he possesses enormous physical power and resistance to injury due to his scales, his true might lies in his magic. Due to his link with the Maelstrom itself, Gen'hius Rex has unparralled arcane ability, mostly in the form of dangerously powerful storm magic.

Specialty: Brutally powerful melee machine combined with sinisterly destructive warlock, as long as it doesn't involve subtlety or dexterity he can do it.

Equipment: Gen'hius Rex carries with him a massive trident, forged into nigh indestructibility via Naga magic. As well as being a worthy melee weapon, the trident also serves as a sort of channelling stave, allowing him to focus his power so as to make it more dangerous to the target and less dangerous to everyone else. Without it he probably would have blown himself, and a huge chunk of land, to smitherings a long time ago. He also wears numerous spiked bracelets and a golden necklace adorned with multiple precious gems.

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Misc. One of the original highborne, Gen'hius had a well established understanding of the manipulation of magical energy. After the War of the Ancients he and the other highborne were cast down to the ocean and transformed into Naga.

Like the other Naga, Gen'hius suffered from magic addiction. To sate this addiction he researched various sources, but none seemed constant enough to sate him. None except one, the old Well of Eternity which had transformed into the Maelstrom. Encouraged by his peers, who were more cautious about employing such a source, Gen'hius attempted to forge a magical link with the Maelstrom, so as to allow its great power to flow directly into him.

Much to the surprise of everyone, the link was a success, abeit too much of one. Instantly vast volumes of raging magical energy poured into Gen'hius' unprepared body. Almost at once his body underwent a radical transformation, growing massive and dark, his orafaces radiating blinding magical light. Rex seemed ready to explode from the magical overload, and then all at once the inner turmoil ceased. His body was permanently altered beyond any previous recognition, but it was his mind that had truely been destroyed. Though naturally arrogant, the surge of magical power throughout his body had utterly shattered his sanity, morphing the sorcerer into raging psycho that many described as "a demon with Naga scales".

The Naga were at quite a loss. What with his tendancy to eat whatever he could find alive and his severe magical tantrums he was far too dangerous to leave alive. However he was also far too powerful for anyone but the Empress herself to kill, and many feared that if he was killed his body would explode, or something even worse. To combat this problem, Gen'hius was set loose upon the world, free to do as he pleased so long as it wasn't in Najzatar.

Recently Gen'hius Rex has taken a liking to prowling the surface world...

Pardon if anything formerly stated I undermine, I might've missed it. Clear that up for me and I'll happily apologize for temporarily claiming ownership of anything stated henceforth!

If it seems like a nice idea to form stories involving the characters, but can't seem to include all of them, then perhaps there could be had quests (rife with tale) that are "tailored", if you will, for specific characters, and at least one for each character in the RPG. Such quests may only be activated at certain points in the RPG by the chars focused on, and by completing the quests and unlocking more areas some more quests that follow the characters will be "unlocked". And then perhaps a few quests that are inclusive of several characters can be created, although I'm not sure how easy that would be, considering which characters are chosen is unpredictable. I guess that's my only idea for the moment.

For reference, how many characters were conceived in the developement of this RPG, as I haven't been current with this project's developement? Just Player Characters, if you will...

Twenty-one if I recall.

Romanov77
05-01-05, 06:28 AM
Name: Romanov

Race: Human

Appearance: Alliance general, very slim, quite weak under the phisical aspect.
Always travels with his comrade Trotzky

Skills and Powers: While being rather weak in brute strenght, he compensates this with great speed, both in movement and attack, execptional reflexes, great swordmanship skills, innate ability for stealth and a very good tactical mind. Trotzky has incredible skills in using explosives, as well as stealth.

Specialty: 1 word: Stealth. He and his comrade Trotzky, can create incredible damge to any enemy before they can even notice their presence

Equipment: Romanov carries his trusted elfic sword and a rare blood elves' artifact that allows him to negate enemy spell and use them at his advantage. Occasionally, can also throw incendiary bottles.
Comrade Trotzsky has explosives. A LOT of them.

Alignment: Good, with some dark side.

Misc:

Born in a nation of strong warriors (Stromgarde) Romanov always suffered for his natural lack of strenght. Born in a noble family, his father rejected him as heir, being a "weakling" unable to carry a sword.

Romanov made friendship with Trotzky, a human inventor who traveled a lot, often visiting Khaz Modan and the mysterious Gnomish cities, were he learned the secret of explosives. They became unseparable.

Romanov quicly learned how to survive, relying on his speed, stealth nature and cunning mind. He also learnt to use very effectively an elven blade, a gift from a dying Bloood elf. He also gave him a powerful artifact...

Later on the city they lived in was attacked by the undead and purged. Only Romanov and Trotsky survived. Some said "fighting". Other said "hiding".

Anyway, Thoras Trollsbane was impressed by that young boy, and made him and his trusted friend join the Stromgarde's army, were Romanov made career, always with his comrade as right arm.

First of all, I am glad to see you snap. I know not many around here like you, but well you know. Anyway, that is not a bad suggestion, but I would be remiss if I did not make the utmost effort to include every character I could. Also, I may be forced to reduce some characters to a less lofty position in the plot than their creators desired. Now, let me be clear: this story is meant to not just be enjoyable but to preserve some of the rpg whose map is quicky descending further into neglect. In the event that it is revived, I do not expect this story to be used as a strict source for any quests, but I will do what I can to make the story fit the frame of the map.

Also, I am glad to see that interest still exists to the point where people have provided me with character info. I am most appreciative, and it will be ag reat help to me in the future. I do not know when the first installment of the story will be ready, but I assure you that I will wait until the end of the week before finalizing the precise plan for the plot so that all who desire to submit character info can.

Kingus Crazyhoof huh? Well, since I'm always in the mood to create characters...

Name: Kingus Crazyhoof

Race: Tauren

Appearance: Though not quite as muscular as the warriors of the Tauren tribes, Kingus is nonetheless very large and physically imposing. Though his near-black fur and reddish eyes suggest a sinister being, anyone who takes the time to truely look upon him will find no hint of malevolence. He dresses in robes of earthy browns and greens.

Skills and Powers: Kingus is a Druid, and a notably skilled one at that. Through his connection to nature, he is able to manipulate plantlife for offensive or possibly even defensive purposes, bestow healing energies upon himself and others, commune with animals, and even transform into one himself. Though he is capable of a variety of forms, he almost exclusively transforms into the mighty wildkin, bringing it's full might and ferocity to bear.

Specialty: Though he does have all the strength one would expect a tauren to have, Kingus has little actual combat training, and thus relies on his druidic powers to support others. However in his Wildkin form his sheer strength and long powerful claws are more than a match for the metal weapons of other warriors.

Equipment: His robes bestow very limited protection, but it's better than going naked. He also carries a staff which serves as a focus for his power as well as an emergency weapon. When he transforms both staff and robes are absorbed into his body.

Alignment: Neutral Good

KrewL RaiN
10-01-05, 06:37 PM
Hehe hers my shot at a profilee.....and it was done in Word so it can be read easily :y-crazy:

Name: RaiN (formally known as Lady RaiN)

Race: Dryad

Appearance: RaiN stands a tad taller then the average human female. She has light purple skin and jade green hair flowing with glossy leaves. Her fur is a chestnut brown that shines in the sun and has a slender build.

Skills and Powers: She is very swift and agile bounding over rocks and obstacles with ease. Most just see a blur of jade and brown when she's leaping through the woods. When caught in battle she will defend herself by calling on the powers of nature. She can call up roots from the earth to entangle her foes, summon forth tranquil rain that heals wounds and use natures most deadly venoms on her spears. Her most powerful skill witch strikes foes with fear and awe is that she can call upon the power of Cenarius and split into 3 elemental sprits.

Specialty: Her speed and cunning make her a deadly foe for she can meld into the surrounding nature and strike from out of nowhere. All they see is a blur when she race towards them and plants a venomous spear in their flesh.

Equipment: She was given an enchanted spear made from her fathers own shed antlers. By using this spear as a focal point of her druidic magics she can wield natures fury with ease like conjure up deadly cyclones that toss foes into the heavens.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Misc: RaiN was one of Cenarius' chosen daughters. She and her fellow chosen sisters were trained in all of their father's knowledge. Using the skills that their father taught, they would stride thought the vastness of nature, adding and protecting the forests they called home.

RaiN like all Dryads is very shy but curious when strangers enter her home forest. If they pose any threat to nature, her shyness is shed away and she quickly takes care of the defilers with her speed and druidic magics. When no danger is near, she princes through the woods talking with the tress and animals around her.

She rarely appears in front of other races unless there's danger that threatens all of the land. Then she makes herself known and charges into battle with her enchanted spear.

Yes, umm, I have been busy with school (had semseter finals last week), and I have been focussing attention on concluding my other story (which only has one chapter left), so I am empty handed as far as this story goes. Well, let me qualify that: I have been working out the plot for the story as well as what I can do as far as character development goes. Moreover, I have decided to divde the hero sections (horde, alliance, neutral) into smaller groups of 3 and four so that I can have them start out at different points in the city of Dalaran without creating a mob of heroes.

Anyway, I hope to have a prologue/first chapter ready by the end of the week and we can go from there.

The Single Player Forum RPG Story

The Ruins of Dalaran

Prologue

A tower fades in and out of sight with the memory of what once was, and over the hewn purple landscape nostalgic thoughts put up a more pleasant image. One second all the parapets of the Violet Citadel rise to the sun, the next, all is ruined. The hands of a now decayed demon destroyed the wondrous stones which once upheld the ascending building, whose shadow hardly conceals the alleyway where thieves bear away the treasures of an overthrown power. Rushing down the lane, the desperate men perhaps see the walking skeletons building profane halls of dark rock, and maybe, as they hustle near the sullied canals, they hear the faint strokes of water flowing towards the Naga, whose forces gather from the waves. Whether or not they see those beings, or any of the marching soldiers, or any of the mutants that gather in rotten corners, those mercenaries always seem to come back to the same old men, whose varying robes belie a common cause: revive a fallen beast, whose shattered corpse is all that remains of Dalaran.

Chapter I

These meetings always took too long. Kayrne leaned against a stone wall and rested his maul on the damp ground with a sigh. After yawning, the paladin’s eyes surveyed the base: a collection of tanks shook under the twirling shadows of an arcane sanctuary, the castle rose over the elevated wall that formed an inner defense line, and he could barely make out the bricks of the barracks.

“What a great view,” he ironically mused.

“Ye must be blind,” the dwarven voice replied next to him, “t’isn’t much here to admire.”

Turning to the context-ignoring Purplebeard, the holy warrior shot a glance of mild annoyance before saying, “All the more reason for Romanov to settle things over there.”

Why their respected commander’s dialogue sequences were always so drawn out never ceased to amaze him. Then again, those two could see what others might not.

Further up the path, a couple of officers were talking in an apparently ordinary way. One of them wore a sword that appeared be too much for his relatively thin frame to bear, and the other one effortlessly balanced a war-hammer on his leather shoulder pad.

“It is not too hard,” Arius, the general of the base stated unconvincingly, “all we are asking is that you aid us in our fight against the Undead. Pretty straightforward.”

“And I am willing to accept the mission,” Romanov responded in a generous voice, “but,” and he leaned close to the warrior and whispered, “my friend is not entirely convinced that you are paying us well enough.”

He returned to an erect position as an extremely puzzled look came across Arius’s face.

Among a reassuring chuckle, the latter responded, “I’m sorry, who?”

The commander jerked his head to the right, where the bewildered paladin saw only vacant space.

“Are you feeling okay?” he asked, though he would’ve rather said, “The insane asylum is down the street and to your left.”

Not realizing the mistake being made, the seemingly crazy man spoke some more words, “Why of course. Anyway, let’s stay on track.” The tone became more serious and his facial hairs themselves became stern, “If you pay us more, then Trotsky here will agree, and we can go. I don’t know why he is being so stubborn today,” his angry expression peered into the empty area to his right, “but he has never led me astray.”

The hammer came off the shoulder, and the paladin’s hand came into the air as his tongue tried to object. He, however, no longer desired to meander through this trite mockery of gameplay versus story, and so caved in.

Romanov bowed, and came away. On the way to his allies he said to the gruff man next to him, “You know you made things very complicated back there.”

The fully visible Trotsky smiled- nothing is quite like a running gag.

***

Such a space was not what he had imagined. Not that Gen’hius Rex was going to complain. The beige walls and the temple architecture created an atmosphere suitable for his glorious presence, and the defenses were well positioned to be sure. Moreover, there should be enough room to accommodate any hostile visitors. Ah! there is the problem! Strategically, he ought to remain, but how was he to gain any pleasure from laying safe behind his soldiers? The gigantic naga fingered one of his many medallions, whose purple sphere hung upon a gilded chain, and allowed his swirling orbs to be captivated by the sweet sight of violet power. Still, he couldn’t shake the desire for battle. There must be something around here that could distract him for a while.

His chaotic eyes saw a new treasure slither in. The snakes of her hair hissed now and again, and her whole manner exuded a complete devotion to the majesty she now approached. Her scales meekly entered under the shadow of the towering lord, and she mustered enough courage to address the trident wielding Rex.

“My lord,” the softly reptilian words slowly came, “the forces on the beach report that all buildings are complete.”

“You two have done well.”

The sea witch confusedly marshaled a few more words to the staring master, “There is but one of me, my lord.”

“The unsuspecting ones were always the best,” he thought looking below her neck. Then he replied, “Tell me, are there any other-”

Another naga female entered, likely bringing more status reports. Suddenly the notion of waiting around for an opponent didn’t seem so bad.

***

“Checkmate.” The smiling, blonde haired man pulled his hand away from the piece triumphantly. The young wizard sitting across from him looked anything but pleased. “Well,” the winner said, “good game.”

“Yeah, sure,” the mage spoke with suppressed wrath.

“I am afraid the rest of my party is waiting for me, so-”

The Inquisitor waived him away and focussed more on the still board. The other man exited the tavern, whose empty tables and barren seats persevered in silence.

From the corner of the tavern a sorcerer came up to the unsettled interrogator. Looking up from under a bushy eyebrow, he said to the approaching man, “I can’t believe he beat me. I mean he took my bishop with his knight just like this,” and he motioned with his finger how his piece had been taken.

“That is most unfortunate and extremely uninteresting,” the other caster said, “now I all I have to give you is this.”

He handed him a rolled up parchment and walked away.

“And where are you going?” the interrogator inquired as he placed the scroll in some pocket amongst his many robes.

The other man stopped near the door, his red and purple raiment still slightly flowing back and forth. “Well,” he said, “if you would read your assignment then you would know what’s going on.” He then left the dim establishment.

Perturbed yet more, the Inquisitor brought the document back out and started to read it. Under his breath he mumbled, “Changing plans again. What fun.”

I sort of want to give it up, but I'd feel bad it I did. I have this feeling, though, that no one cares about this thing anymore.

What do you say? Shall we let this die?
