Is there anyway of changing the games resolution without actually being in the game as I only have a standard 15" monitor which can handle 800x600 and when I load it up the resolution is all wrong so I can't do anything.

If you have geforce chip, get a cable and connect it to the tv, you can play warcraft on tv and set resolution.

Go to Control Panel, and then go to where you would change your screen saver or backround.

Go to the Settings tab, and in the bottom left corner you should see a little bar that you can change your resolution with.

Not the desktop resoloution but inside the game resolution.

Pity with such a great chip you have 15 inch screen.
There is a lot of cables depending on you tv input, if you have friend who knows in such maters ask him.
Or ask the worker who work in a store who sells such stuff.

I will be getting a better monitor but it won't be for a while as I have only just finished building my computer and only being 15 years old money is precious so I am going to wait and get some more money again lol which will take till around christmas till I pay off all the money I owe to my parents.
