(Crash, black screen, back in windows, a window with text appears)

This application has encountered a critical error:

FATAL ERROR!

Program: d:\warcraft iii\war3.exe
Exception: 0xC000001D (ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION) at 001B:0012EF98

Right, so the error described above is the problem. Well, it hasn't become a true problem yet, but it happened twice, and i really don't dare to play 4 real before i consult someone.

So, i'm asking if anyone's had this, and what did he do to fix it? Any help or advice is appreciated. :y-thumbsu

Hmmm Ive had this error a couple of times while making maps. I only remember one instance, and if I remember right there was some graphics from burning oil causing tons of lag and then that error.
If you got the error while making a map, then you should first check all triggers, to be sure theres anot a trigger causing it, and then see if there's any custom graphic effects

Used to happen to me. It's either to do with your computer running out of ram (How much have you got? If it's under 512 you really need to shop for more) or a bad custom map. The difference can be told if the problem only occurs with one particular map, or the whole game.

That definitely happened to me. It only gets worse, so be afraid. However, I found a way to beat it (on my computer, at least).
I have heard that formatting and reinstalling works... it doesn't, or at least, it didn't for me.
I have heard that it might be caused be bad RAM. I downloaded a memory tester, it turned out my RAM was bad, I swapped it out (512 for 512), formatted and reinstalled just to be safe, and lo and behold, Warcraft III crashed again.
So then I thought it might be my video card. I had a really bad off-brand 32 mb video card, (tangent: don't buy video cards with off-brand chips; you are wasting your money. Not everything, actually most stuff doesn't support them.) so I bought a Mad Dog 128 mb GeForce 5200+ FX. Works fine and everything.
Hopefully your problem won't be as expensive as mine was. Good luck!

And it worked no matter what map I was playing, a campaign, custom, b-net. So it might be, but probably isn't, the maps you're using.
